She has been a tenant farmer on the Carcant Estate on the Scottish borders for twelve years now, tending 500 sheep in a very rugged and unforgiving hilly terrain. She is a naturally gifted teacher with a canine communication qualification. She teaches individuals and groups from around the globe on the ‘pressure/release’ methods, she developed when training her own border collies.
For those of you who are not aware of Julie’ accomplishments within sheepdog trialing then her track record is extremely impressive. Of particular note, is that she is the only woman ever, to have won the international Supreme Championships in both Singles and Brace Competitions, along with a string of other international honours and the Champion of Champions.
Julie has also written a book on sheepdog training called, 'The Natural Way. Sheepdog Training using the dog's own language' It is packed with practical advice based on Julie's 30 years experience as a shepherd and as a qualified canine communicator. She explains how dogs communicate and then how to use a language they understand to train them effectively.
